If you have customized Google page with your favorite background image, a bad news is awaiting for you. Google will no longer support customization with background images November 16, 2012. Google reasons for this by saying that they are building “a more streamlined Google Search page for everyone”.
If you are using a custom background image, you might have got a pop up notification from the bottom left as in the above image.

What the hell? I am not interested in using a browser if I cannot customize with my own background images!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does anybody have a solution for me?
Its not with the browser. Google is removing this feature and I believe there is no solution for this.
You could easily use Greasmonkey user JavaScript to bring it back if you wanted to.
Seriously?
its not that hard to keep a BG on a new page…
This (on the surface) seems to make no sense to me. What possibly could Googles excuse,” As we build a more streamlined Google Search page for everyone,” have any bearing on being able to customize their web browser appearance on (your) personal computer.
This customization (has) been so much of what Google has marketed their search engine on in the past, and now they (out of the Blue) try to force feed a lame excuse that this is for your own good makes me nothing but, suspicious as to what the (real) motive is for reversing direction in the middle of this stream of the individuality Google has been traversing from day one.
Just treat me like an adult and explain the real reason for your business decision to turn 180 degrees from the current approach to individuality. I can take the truth, but I cannot take being fed a line of BS.
Really Google, you embarrass yourself by this excuse as policy change….
What? Is that seriously how you looked at it? That is not BS, it’s just a summary. You’re ridiculous.
This SUCKS. I even forgot how ugly Google’s normal search page is. I’ve been using different backgrounds since they implemented this feature, and now they’re just gonna take it off? Idiotic
One Search Engine to Rule them ALL!!!
If you are going to eliminate something that me and apparently many others have become used to using, why can you not give us some way to replace it with a similar service?
Why in the world do you guys actually go to google.com to search for things when you can just search from the address bar? I didn’t even know you could customize the page because again, why would you go there?
Well, for one, google.com has a nice link bar for search, images, maps, youtube,
news, and gmail just to name a few. Having those links, along with a custom background has been a great launch point for me. But I agree with others hear having a white background is horrid and I will probably look elsewhere for a darker home page.
I find this to be a poor choice on Google’s part. I have been exploring other search engines for the first time in a decade. What are they thinking?
They do it for quicker response time. Search is not about having pretty pictures in the background, it’s about getting results in less than a second. But if you prefer pretty pictures in the background, then I suggest you use Bing.
I suggest for everyone to save his customized Google homepage, and upload it to his hosting after making necessary changes.
Here is a Solution to regain Google search page Background images in Chrome; Go to Google Chrome’s Extensions, scroll to the bottom and click on “Get More Extensions”. Search for and Install the “Background Image” extension. If you Right click on one of your Picasa Web Album images, then copy & then paste the URL into this “Background Image” Extension, it will work like a charm.
Now you know how it feels to be North-Korean.
